Two retailers, Amazon and Walmart, went live with the online SNAP pilot in Washington state this week. Washington follows New York, which launched in April of last year. Authorized in the 2014 Farm Bill, the online pilot is currently slated for six more states, with some expected to launch in the coming months. The 2018 Farm Bill authorized a nationwide rollout if FNS determines the pilot to be a success and rollout is feasible. Only very large retailers with sophisticate online services have been approved to date.
